Janam Kundali

The Vedic Birth Chart · Vedic Astrology (Jyotish)

Janam Kundali — literally "birth horoscope" in Sanskrit — is the foundation of Vedic astrology (Jyotish). It is a precise map of the sky at the exact moment and location of your birth, divided into twelve houses (Bhavas), each governing a different domain of life: self, wealth, siblings, home, children, health, relationships, longevity, dharma, career, gains, and liberation. Into these houses fall the nine celestial bodies of Jyotish: the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu — each carrying its own nature and each modified by the house and sign it occupies.

What It Reveals

A Janam Kundali reveals the karmic blueprint you were born with. The Lagna (Ascendant) — the sign rising on the eastern horizon at birth — becomes your first house and colours your entire personality and physical constitution. The Moon sign (Rashi) governs your emotional nature and is used for predictive timing through the Dasha system. Planetary aspects, conjunctions, and the strength of each planet in its sign (exaltation, debilitation, or own-sign placement) paint a nuanced picture of your natural strengths, recurring challenges, and the themes the universe has arranged for you to work with in this lifetime. A reading covers career potential, financial patterns, relationship tendencies, health predispositions, and the spiritual path indicated by the 9th and 12th houses.

How It Works

The calculation requires your date, time, and place of birth. Even a 15-minute error in birth time can shift the Ascendant and alter every house cusp. The positions of all nine planets are plotted into the North Indian or South Indian chart style — both are in wide use. The Vimshottari Dasha system then divides life into planetary periods (Mahadashas) of 6 to 20 years each, with sub-periods (Antardashas) within, allowing precise timing of life events. Transits of slow-moving planets like Saturn and Jupiter over sensitive natal positions further refine predictions.

Who It's For

Anyone curious about their life's direction, natural talents, recurring patterns in relationships or career, or the timing of major life events will benefit from a Kundali reading. It is particularly valuable at major crossroads — career changes, marriage decisions, relocation — when understanding the cosmic context can make the difference between acting with the grain of your karma and against it.
