About This Card
An angel — identified as Gabriel — blows a trumpet from which hangs a flag with a white cross. Below, naked figures rise from coffins, arms outstretched, faces turned upward. Mountains of ice rise in the background. The scene is the final reckoning: not a punishment, but an awakening. Each figure hears the call and rises to meet it. Judgement is the card of the great review — the moment of honest reckoning with who you have been and who you are becoming.
Upright Meaning
Judgement, rebirth, inner calling, absolution, awakening.
Judgement upright announces an awakening — a moment of deep clarity about your life, your choices, and who you truly are beneath the roles you play. Something is calling you. It may feel like a vocation, a deep inner pull, a sense that a chapter is truly complete and a new one is ready to begin. This is also the card of forgiveness — releasing yourself and others from the prison of old grievances so that you can rise, fully, into what comes next. Answer the call.
Reversed Meaning
Self-doubt, failure to learn lessons, ignoring the call, harsh self-judgement.
Judgement reversed suggests difficulty with self-reflection — you may be avoiding an honest reckoning with past choices, blaming others for patterns you have also contributed to, or refusing to hear an inner call because answering it would require real change. It can also indicate harsh self-judgement: holding yourself accountable not for growth, but as punishment. The past cannot be changed; it can only be learned from. Be honest with yourself — then forgive yourself, and begin again.
