About This Card
A warrior stands in a chariot pulled by two sphinxes — one black, one white. He wears armour decorated with crescent moons, his canopy covered in stars. He holds no reins; he controls the sphinxes through sheer force of will and focused intention. The city lies behind him — he has moved beyond it. The Chariot is the card of the warrior who has mastered opposing forces and drives them forward toward a single goal.
Upright Meaning
Control, willpower, success, determination, victory through discipline.
The Chariot upright is a strong signal that victory is possible — but only through discipline, focused will, and the courage to keep moving despite opposition. This is not the time to doubt, to second-guess, or to be pulled in multiple directions. The two sphinxes represent the competing forces within you and around you. Your task is not to eliminate the tension but to harness it. Commit fully to your direction and do not stop.
Reversed Meaning
Lack of control, aggression, no direction, scattered energy.
The Chariot reversed warns of a loss of direction — energy is scattered, the competing forces have gained the upper hand, and you are either standing still or moving in circles. There may be aggression without aim, control issues (over-controlling or feeling controlled), or a battle of wills in a relationship or work situation. Reconnect with your core intention. Regain the reins — gently but firmly.
