About This Card
A full moon shines between two towers, its face wearing a contemplative expression. Below, a pool — the collective unconscious. From the pool crawls a crayfish, the earliest stage of conscious awareness. A wolf and a domestic dog howl at the moon from opposite shores — the wild and tamed aspects of our nature, both called by the same mysterious light. The path between the towers leads into the unknown. The Moon is the card of what we do not yet understand, and the fears that fill that space.
Upright Meaning
Illusion, fear, the unconscious, confusion, complexity, depth.
The Moon upright asks you to acknowledge that something is not clear right now — and to be willing to sit with that uncertainty rather than rushing to a false resolution. Illusions may be at play: things are not as they appear, and premature conclusions are dangerous. This is a time for heightened intuition, for paying attention to dreams and gut feelings, and for moving carefully rather than confidently through a situation that has not yet revealed itself fully. Trust your inner radar.
Reversed Meaning
Release of fear, repressed emotions surfacing, gaining clarity.
The Moon reversed can indicate that a fog is beginning to lift — illusions are dissolving, confusion is resolving into clarity, and fears that once felt overwhelming are losing their power over you. It can also suggest that repressed emotions or anxieties are surfacing in disruptive ways: the unconscious content you have been keeping below the surface is demanding to be acknowledged. Face it honestly — what is seen can be healed; what remains hidden continues to run the show.
